Teal Group Worldwide Mission Model Estimates 2,450 Space Payloads

COLORADO SPRINGS/April 17, 2012/ -- Teal Group today announced release of the results of its Worldwide Mission Model survey of space payloads at the 28th National Space Symposium (NSS) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 2,450 payloads contained in this year's Mission Model represents a 6 percent increase over last year's total of 2,315. The Model has consistently grown over the past 20 years.

"We've released our Mission Model data here because we believe NSS is the primary space industry event in the world," said Marco Caceres, Teal Group senior space analyst. "We see NSS as an ideal forum for stimulating discussion about the future of the space market, given the 'hard' information we have compiled on the more than 2,000 satellites, capsules, probes, and other types of 'payloads' proposed to be built and launched over the next two decades by more than 300 companies, agencies, universities, and other organizations in more than 50 countries."

While the US government remains the largest and most important customer for both satellites and launch services, the market is much bigger and vastly more diverse than is commonly understood. The Model is a powerful online spreadsheet tool for tracking the payloads market and helping you develop forecasts regarding its makeup, size and value - based on changing assumptions, events, policy decisions, and trends. It is the core of Teal's World Space Systems Briefing consulting service, which has produced analyses of space programs and projections of the market since 1992.

"We've put together a short Powerpoint presentation," said Caceres, "It contains six 'summary charts' breaking out the payloads data by market segment (Commercial, Civil, Military, and University & Other); by orbit (LEO, GEO, MEO, Deep Space and Elliptical); by Mass (in kg); by Customer Region (North America, Europe, Russia & CIS, Asia & Pacific Rim, Africa & Middle East and Latin America & Caribbean; by Owner/Operator (DoD, NASA, ESA, Intelsat... ); and by Launch Vehicle Nationality (USA, Russia, China, Europe... )." Note that there are many other data fields within the Model. For a free copy of the Powerpoint file, e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots.
